Niedola / Woe is an audio-visual collaboration between Mala Herba and Sven Harambašić. Sven is a visual artist based in Croatia, interested in grotesque and psychosomatic. The collages made by analog photos by Sven inspired Mala Herba to finish the compositions. Mala Herba is a solo project of a sound artist, composer, queer activist, curator, and researcher Zosia Hołubowska. The EP represents a change in MH’s interests and style.

The EP is comprised of two original tracks, and two remixes (by OCD and Michał Nowak) and is completed by a zine. It is available as a digital download and a limited printed publication. OCD is a Berlin-based DJ and producer, resident of GEGEN and aufnahme+wiedergabe artist. Michał Nowak is a composer, producer, and DJ from Poznań (PL). Collaboration is essential to Mala Herba’s practice and the new release is based on artistic exchange.

Mala Herba’s tracks escape genres, weaving ritualistic rhythms, dark lore, and wailing vocals with rough, industrial sounds. The signature elements of MH style are still there: powerful layers of voice and narrative songwriting but Niedola/ Woe is much deconstructed and emotive. Not really “inspired” by but wrung out of despair and anxiety, the compositions represent the terror and insecurity of the current climate, be it russian invasion of Ukraine, the attack on reproductive justice in Poland, and climate collapse.
